There is a specific reason for me to use the above picture of women raped during 1971 Bangladesh's liberation war. Recent rape culture in Bangladesh is highlighted just by usage of social media. But this culture or rape is not new, it was there and it is there. Its just people are not impatient about it. Everything has a limit and I am glad to see people has started talking about it. Today I will try to discuss how this rape culture in Bangladesh has come to this level. How this is connected to wider corruption in the country and what we should do now to stop it.
Now lets talk about why I have used that sad picture of a woman tied up after rape during the liberation war. When I think about current rape culture of Bangladesh, I don't see any difference between now and then. Woman, girl and even children are not safe in the country. This country is now it's worst social stage in the history. Nobody, when I say nobody, I mean anyone other than general public, cares about what sufferings of these rape victims and their future. I don't see any support for them after the rape. They don't get any proper legal support take the rapist into court and take them through the court of law. Well, there is no law and order in the country. But as a human being a citizen must have minimum right to ask for security and safety for them. They must have the right to ask for justice, if they become victim of rape. But who cares in the country. Anyone now can rape someone publicly and get away with it. I can see the similarity of the above picutre with current condition in the country. These rapists are not only raping innocent human being, they are actually raping Bangladesh.
This is not something just increased recently. It has been there for years. Now with the increase of social media, people find it more comfortable to talk on digital world than going to court or police station. Because they are now knowing that political leaders's weakness is their so called good image. They don't want to be bad publicly. Therefore, if any incident become viral in social media, only then they will take some actions or will pretend to do something about it. General public has got more trust on social media than justice system in the country. Every rapist knows very well that they can get away from a punishment where corruption is so popular in the country. Rich rapists can buy justice system with money, poor rapists can delay the process and raped woman feel socially ashamed to go and ask for justice publicly. Nothing is suitable for a raped girl in this country to seek justice and complete legal process in this broken country.
If any political party leader or their related is raped publicly, will they remain quiet like this? They have quickly made a decision to make the offence punishable to death and trying to publicize that they have done their part. Is it that simple? Are we all look like a idiot? Making an offence punishable to death makes it even difficult for a victim to get justice legally and drag the whole process longer. Now who has just got raped, instead of ensuring people can live, move, work safely - this corrupted government making it harder to get justice. I don't also get the public sentiment. Apart from some people, all Bangladeshi stupid people are not getting the game this corrupted system is playing around this rape victim new system. With this new law, rape victims will not only be deprived from the justice, it will also make their lives worse. How many rape victims can spend money to continue a rape trial from their pocket for years?
Bangladeshi bastard polices are such a corrupted part of the country that they must be demolished and there must not be a police, if they are like this. I think, corruption in police has actually helped raped culture to exist in the country. They don't care about anyone. They are nothing but a slave institution of government. They exists only to make the government happy. They have gone so far way from their main line of responsibilities that everyone has forgot why police exists. It is time to bring a stop to this. Raise your voice publicly. If social media works, then use it. If blogs works to raise your voice, then write, if demonstration on road works, then do it. It is possible to make a social change in the country without any violence.
